The Play’s the thing….

Finally, after five novels, I have fulfilled an early ambition by writing a one-act play. Last week,  I heard it read aloud by four actors from the award-winning Rosemary Drama Group. To my great relief, it mostly worked. I had excellent feedback and could see what changes were needed to make it as good as it can be. It is set in a hotel suite during a party political conference. I was a lobby correspondent at Westminster, and attended political party conferences in England and Scotland as a reporter in my pre-novel-writing career, but it was an incident involving a French politician in New York that sparked the idea for 'Personal Politics'. I hope it will get a proper staged performance some time. I am revising it now. And I am also writing another.
