Sunday Sequence, 9th June 2019
The images and language of George Orwell's '1984', published 70 years ago this week, have passed into everyday language: Big Brother, Newspeak, Thoughtcrime, 2 +2 =5, Room 101. Fiction, of course, but is Orwell's imagined 1984 world now uncomfortably close to fact? We discuss the last book by the late Father Daniel O'Leary, "Dancing to my Death". But along with death and dystopia, we discuss Art and Music too. Photographer, Stephen Wilson, talks about the exhibition of his photographs currently on show in Redeemer Central and in St Patrick's Donegall Street, and Fr Eugene O'Neill talks about the Sir John Lavery painting donated to the church 100 years ago and explains why the bi-located photograph exhibition is called 'Same Difference'. And hymn-writer and composer, Keith Getty, tells us about the 'Sing!' Conference he has organised in Assembly Buildings on 15th June, and the huge concert in the SSS Arena afterwards. We meet the new Presbyterian Moderator, Dr William Henry. And I get to say goodbye and thank you to the contributors, listeners and production team who have made my almost five years presenting 'Sunday Sequence' so rewarding and enjoyable.
