Leaving ‘Sunday Sequence’.
I've loved it. I've met amazing people, had interesting conversations, worked with terrific colleagues. But I've been neglecting my writing - I have a book and a stage play to finish. Working on a wide-ranging programme - and 'Religion and Ethics' is a broad brief - is like having a computer application running constantly in the brain. When not in the office or in the studio, I'm always seeing and hearing things - in the newspapers, on radio or TV, in conversation - and thinking "that would be a good subject for interview/discussion on 'Sunday Sequence' ". I need to finish that book and play. And I'm mindful of advice from a sister-in-law: 'Enjoy your seventies!" I want to spend more time with my grandchildren; play more golf; visit more countries. I want to learn to draw; to resume my singing lessons; perfect my French, learn German. So, I've decided to stop presenting 'Sunday Sequence' - still the best programme on BBC Radio Ulster, and one of the best on radio anywhere, in my opinion.
