Golfing again!
Arthritic knees mean I must play in a buggy - for the time being at least. Bad weather at the end of last year meant no buggies - the ground at was too wet. Result - no golf all winter, except for 18 holes at Valescure in Provence in February. (It's a charming course, and one of a group of courses founded in 1895 to which my home course, Knock, belongs.) My husband and I spent three days driving back through France to Cherbourg for our return sea-journey to Ireland. France was beginning to report Covid19 cases, so we decided to self-isolate when we got home, just in case we had picked up the virus en route. Then lockdown happened - no golf for three months.
It is wonderful to be back on the course again, albeit in a buggy. Months of fine weather, and the exemplary work of the greenkeepers, means Knock is in tip-top condition. My ball has never run so far and so fast.
I'm counting the days until Covid19 regulations allow us to play on other courses.
It's hard to believe my golf book, 'Emerald Greens: The Essential Guide to Holiday Golf in Ireland' (introduction by Darren Clarke) was published 20 years ago! I'd like to re-visit at least some of them again this summer. Fingers crossed!
