Elections

As a journalist, I loved reporting them. I still love watching the results come in. The drama. The palpable tension at the count. The facial expressions of winners and losers. The gasps at the surprises. The drawn-out tension of Single Transferable Vote (STV) counts and the way even tiny shifts of opinion show up in the way votes transfer from candidate to candidate. First Past the Post (FTP) election counts are faster and, when the vote is close, full of suspense. When I can't watch the count on TV, I listen to the radio, and have sometimes fallen asleep listening to results coming across on radio, as good as counting sheep.
