Becoming a playwright…..
A stage play, Not a screenplay. (I became a novelist because I could not make a story work for the screen, despite years of experience making documentaries for television. The first scene in my abandoned first screenplay became the first sentence in my first novel.)
I have now got a one-act play into what I hope is good enough shape to merit a performance, and have sent it to a theatre director who has agreed to read it and give me his verdict.
I have been helped by members of two award-winning amateur groups, Prosperous, based in County Kildare, and the Belfast-based Rosemary Drama Group. They gave great advice, and actors from the Rosemary Drama Group generously gave me a live reading of the play.
I am now working on another play, one that I began earlier than the one I've completed, one that is still rolling around in my head.
Wish me luck!
